EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team learned on Monday that graduate student right-handed pitcher
Conner Dotson, who recently completed his collegiate career, has signed a professional contract with the Cleburne Railroaders of the American Association.
This past season, Dotson went 2-1 with a 4.42 ERA. In nine games and starts, he pitched 36.2 innings, striking out 38 while holding opponents to a .203 batting average. Dotson led the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in opponents' batting averaging during conference play (.186) by allowing just 19 hits, 13 fewer than any other starter, and 17 of which were singles. He was the only regular starter in the conference not to allow a home run during WAC play. Dotson ranked fifth in strikeouts per game during WAC play at 9.71.
Dotson pitched at West Virginia from 2015-18, winning 10 games with a 4.53 ERA, racking up 118 strikeouts in 135 innings.
Dotson is one of four alumni currently playing professionally, along with outfielder
Logan Landon (2014-15), who was promoted to the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers on Sunday, right-handed pitcher
Dusten Knight (2012-13), who is currently playing with Diablos Rojols del Mexico, and infielder/pitcher
Roger Bernal (2009-12), who is currently playing with Bravos de Leon. Additionally,
Anthony Gomez was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 34
thround of the MLB Draft on June 5.
