SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's women's tennis team picked up 11 singles and doubles wins to close the Texas State Invitational at the Bobcat Tennis Center on Sunday. 
 
Sophomore Marjorie Souza and junior Lea Karren went 3-0 in singles throughout the invitational after winning their matches Sunday morning. Souza beat McNeese State's Aina Domingo 6-3, 6-4 and Karren defeated Tiana Fox from MSU 6-1, 6-1 in the second and third flights, respectively. 
 
Sophomore Barbara Martinez and sophomore Daniela Rosenberger also picked up wins against McNeese State in the final round of singles. Martinez beat Natalia Ballo 6-1, 6-1 and Rosenberger captured the first singles victory of her UTRGV career against Luna Jokanovic 6-0, 7-5. Senior Kristyna Mamicova beat Texas State's Emma Carr 6-3, 6-3 in her final singles match of the weekend. 
 
The Vaqueros had a strong showing in the second bout of doubles matches, winning all three matches against UIW's doubles lineup and adding a win against a Bobcats duo. Souza/Martinez beat Sofia Salcedo/Amelie Montalvo, Karren/Rosenberger defeated Sophia Kermet/Ine Lamprecht and Mamicova/junior Isabelle Bahr beat Gargi Pawar/Nitika Girish, all 6-4, in the top three flights. Senior Stefanie Wilske and freshman Valentina Urraco teamed up to top Maria Lora/Emma Carr 6-4. 
 
In the third round of doubles matches, the Vaqueros fell on three of four courts to Texas State. Bahr/Mamicova captured their second consecutive doubles win, beating Lora/Carr 6-3. Freshman Yaiza Vazquez and senior Harlingen South alum Valeria Montero defeated Pawar/Girish 6-3. 
 
UTRGV is back in action Oct. 28-30 at the UIW Cardinal Classic in San Antonio.
