RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field program announced on Tuesday that five student-athletes will be competing in outdoor national events in July. 
 
Junior Uxia Pereira will be competing in the XXXVIII Campeonato de España Sub23 de Pista al Aire Libre, the Spanish Under-23 Outdoor Championships, July 1-2 in Tarragona, Spain. 
 
Four freshmen – Symoria Adkins, Aaron Cooper, Jamari Harts and Jedidiah Udunna – will compete July 7-9 at the 2023 USA Track & Field Under-20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The top three finishers in each event at the U20 Championships will advance to represent the United States at the 2023 Pan Am U20 Championships Aug. 4-6 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. 
 
"The Under-20 championships showcase the best of the best up-and-coming track & field talent in the United States," UTRGV track & field/cross country head coach Shareese Hicks said. "Having our student-athletes qualify for this competition shows the level that they have risen to and will give them the added experience that is needed for big-time competition. The same can be said about Uxia heading back to Spain to compete among the best there." 
 
Pereira will partake in the qualifying round of the women's 100-meter hurdles on July 1 at 12:15 p.m. (5:15 a.m. CT). If she advances, she'll run the semifinal of the 100-meter hurdles on July 2 at 11:15 a.m. (4:15 a.m. CT), and the final is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. (6:05 a.m. CT).
 
If Pereira finishes in the top three with a time of 13.90 or better, she'll advance to represent Spain at the European Athletics U23 Championships July 13-16 in Espoo, Finland. She ran 13.96 (3.0) at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Outdoor Championships in May. 
 
USATF U20 action begins for the Vaqueros on Friday, July 7 at Oregon's Hayward Field. Adkins will race in the first round of the women's 100-meter hurdles at 4:46 p.m. (CT), and if she advances, will run in the final scheduled for 6:18 p.m. (CT). Cooper will compete in the men's triple jump starting at 5:05 p.m. (CT). 
 
On July 8, Udunna will compete in the men's long jump at 4 p.m. (CT) and Harts will begin his campaign in the men's 400-meter dash with the first round of the event at 4:44 p.m. (CT). 
 
The action wraps up July 9. If Harts advances in the men's 400-meter dash, he'll run the final at 5:30 p.m. (CT). Adkins will run in the first round of the women's 200-meter dash at 4:41 p.m. (CT) trying to claim a spot in the final, which is slated for 6:46 p.m. (CT).
