CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff on Monday at Dalhousie Country Club.
Play was suspended in the second round due to darkness and will be completed on Tuesday with the third round beginning soon after.
The Vaqueros turned in a first round 291 and are just five shots back from fifth place. LSU holds the one shot lead after a first round 283.
The Vaqueros were led by senior
Javier Neira Garcia who posted an opening round two under par 70 and is tied for ninth place. Freshman
Emilio Gil Leyva is tied for 16
th after the first round after posting an even par in his first collegiate event.
Junior
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque posted a first round 74 and is tied for 37
th. Freshman and McAllen Memorial alum
Esteban Gonzalez, who was also making his collegiate debut, carded a first round 75 and is in 45
thplace and sophomore
Henry Wang is tied for 68
th with a first round 79.
LSU's Alex Price holds the individual lead after posting a first round seven-under 65.
