Swimming & Diving Wins Nine Events In Second Consecutive Team Win

HOUSTON –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros swimming & diving program used a full team effort to down McMurry and St. Thomas in the UST Tri Meet Saturday at the Rice University Aquatics Center Natatorium.
 
UTRGV won nine of 11 events and had every student-athlete contribute to at least one top-three finish. Overall, UTRGV earned 22 top-three finishes.
 
UTRGV earned the victory, winning nine of 11 events and finishing with 124 points, followed by McMurry and St. Thomas.
 
Freshmen Ida Rudelius and Annaleagh Stahl led the way for Vaqueros as they each picked up three wins.
 
Rudelius earned wins in the 50 freestyle (25.87), 100 butterfly (1:01.09), and as the first leg in the 400 free relay.
 
Stahl picked up wins in the 400 individual medley (4:40.18), 100 backstroke (1:00.30), and as the anchor leg in the 400 free relay.
 
Sophomore Olivia Votava took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.39) and swam in the third leg of the 400 free relay.
 
Sophomore AJ Rogers and freshmen Diara Aleman, Sarah Garcia, and Mia Gonzalez set the tone for the Vaqueros with a win in the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet.
 
Freshman Manou Meulebeek picked up her fourth diving win of the season with a 273.53 in the 3-meter springboard.
 
Sophomore Chloe Siegrist took the gold in the 1000 freestyle (11:44.40) for her first win of the season and Freshman Madiana Lofgren earned a win as the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay.
 
The Vaqueros will travel to Las Cruces for their first taste of Western Athletic Conference action in a tri-meet featuring New Mexico State and Northern Arizona on Nov. 9.
 
On Nov. 8, the Vaqueros will compete in a relay meet with the Aggies in Las Cruces.
