BOISE, Id. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's swimming and diving program earned eight personal bests and 18 season bests at the Vandal Invite and Tiger Invitational Friday.
The UTRGV swimming & diving team split up this weekend as the swimmers competed in the Vandal Invite in Boise, Idaho and the divers took part in the Tiger Invitational in San Antonio.
Tiger Invitational
Freshman
Manou Meulebeek earned a personal-best and school record 302.20 to win the 1-meter springboard while junior
Delaney Murphy took second with a season-best 246.65.
Vandal Invite
The Vaqueros had six student-athletes compete in the individual events after a full morning of prelims.
The finals kicked off with the 200 free relay where freshmen
Sarah Garcia (25.73) and
Abygail Martinez (28.36) picked up personal bests with their splits in the relay.
In the 500 free, sophomore
Olivia Votava (5:23.82) finished in seventh. Sophomore
Chloe Siegrist (5:32.79) competed in the "B" Final and sophomore
AJ Rogers earned a personal-best 5:42.78 in the "C" Final.
Freshman
Annaleagh Stahl (2:08.94) was the lone competitor in the 200 individual medley, finishing in sixth.
Freshman
Ida Rudelius swam a season-best 25.02, finishing in seventh in the 50 free as the lone swimmer from UTRGV.
Looking Back at the Prelims
In the 500 freestyle, Votava qualified for the "A" Final after swimming a season-best 5:21.75 in the prelims. Siegrist (5:30.21) earned a season-best while Rogers (5:45.37) earned a season-best before beating that time in the finals.
In the 200 individual medley, Stahl swam a personal best 2:07.96 and finished sixth in the preliminary round, qualifying for the "A" Final. Freshman
Lauren Uribe swam a personal-best 2:46.75 in the event as well.
In the 200 free, Rudelius swam a season-best 25.33 to qualify for the "A" Final while freshman
Caitlynn Rubio (29.60) hit a personal best in the race. Earning season bests in the event were freshmen
Madiana Lofgren (26.00),
Mia Gonzalez (26.46), and
Audrey Trevino (27.59).
The 400 medley relay team of Stahl, Votava, Rudelius, and Lofgren swam a season-best 4:04.10, shaving off five seconds from their previous season low.
The swimmers are back in action tomorrow at the Vandal Invite for prelims at 11 a.m. (CT) and the finals will take place at 6 p.m. (CT). The divers will compete in the 3-meter springboard tomorrow at 1:30 at the Tiger Invitational.
