RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that freshman Esteban Gonzalez, of the men's golf team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Gonzalez led the Vaqueros at the All-American Intercollegiate as he finished tied for 14^th out of the 100 golfers in the field. Gonzalez opened with a first round 74 before posting a two-under par 70 in the second round. 
 
Gonzalez closed out the final round with another 74 to finish with a three-round score of two-under 218. 
 
In his freshman season, Gonzalez has posted a 73.5 stroke average and has finished inside the top-20 three times this spring. To go along with his 14^th place finish at the All-American, he also finished 18^th at the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate and 19^th at the Peoples Championship.
 
The Vaqueros are back in action today as they host The Big Texan at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville.
