DALLAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team used a 25-shot improvement to climb to ninth place after the second round of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Monday at Trinity Forest Golf Course. 
 
After posting a first round 300 and sitting tied for 15^th, the Vaqueros turned in a second round 13-under 275, which is tied for the third lowest single round team score in program history. The Vaqueros have a two-round total of 575 and are just four shots behind Baylor for eighth place. 
 
Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro led the Vaqueros' charge with an 8-under 64, which is tied for the second lowest individual single round score in program history. Sampedro turned in a clean scorecard with eight birdies and 10 pars as he is tied for 35^th with a two-round total of 144.
 
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada also turned in a round of under par as he posted a three-under 69 with four birdies, 13 pars, and just one bogey. Villoslada is tied for 25^th with a two-round total of 142. 
 
Junior Esteban Gonzalez is tied for 35^th with a two-round total of 144 after posting a two-under par 70. Junior Rodolphe Cicala and freshman Brock Porter are tied for 68^th with two-round totals of 150. Cicala carded his second-straight round of 75 while Porter improved by six shots with a second round even par 72. 
 
South Alabama holds the team lead after two rounds with a 553 after posting a second round 273. Rice's Lukas Boandl and Louisiana's Malan Potgieter share the lead with a two-round total of 132. 
 
The Vaqueros will wrap up the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday with the first group teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
