Cross Country - Hernandez started the 2007 season with a fourth-place finish at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Relays with a time 41:09.00...Earned three top-10 finishes in during his junior campaign...Finished seventh overall at the Texas State Invitational with a time of 27:05.62...Notched a time of 26:00.0 at the Texas A&M Invitational with a 27th place finish...Earned a third-place finish at the National Independent Tournament with a time of 24:54.60...Placed 39th at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships...Indoor - Hernandez competed in three meets during the indoor track and field season...competed in the one-mile race where he placed 30th overall at the Leonard Hilton Memorial with a time of 4:55.23...earned a 43rd placed finish at the University of Houston Invitational in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:40.88...Outdoor - Competed in three different events throughout the outdoor track and field season...placed 19th overall at the Border Olympics in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.44 and an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.34...recorded five top-10 finishes in the outdoor season...earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:44.48 at the Bobcat Open and a time of 9:55.27 at the Tom Tellez Invitational...at the Texas Invitational, placed third overall in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:10.44...earned a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in the Texas Relays with a time of 9:35.90.

Cross Country - The UTPA sophomore competed in four meets during the cross country season... finished 33rd overall at the National Independent Championships with a time of 27:52.00 in the 8,000-meter race... Summer - Hernandez competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2006 Finish Line USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Indianapolis, IN... Outdoor - The UTPA rookie finished in the top 10 in all five events that he competed in during the outdoor season... finished fourth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:25.90 at the Rice/Bayou Classic... crossed the end line in fourth place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:07.63 at the Houston Invitational... notched a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:06.16 at the Border Olympics... finished eighth overall at the Texas Invitational with a mark of 5:56.36 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase... earned eighth-place honors in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:06.38 at the Texas Twilight... Indoor - Hernandez recorded a trio of top-10 finishes during the indoor season... recorded his best finish at the UH/RunSport All-Comers Meet where he placed third overall with a time of 8:46.02 in the 3,000-meter race... cross the end line in fourth place in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:41.66 at the Wes Kittley Invitational... finished sixth overall in the 800-meter race with a mark of 2:04.60 at the Wes Kittley Six-Way... notched a 12th-place finish at the Houston Indoor Classic with a time of 4:24.19 in the one-mile race.
2005 Season
Cross Country - Hernandez appeared in all five races for the Broncs in his first season... recorded his best finish of the season at the National Independent Cross Country Championships where he placed 23rd overall with a time of 26:20.21 in the 8,000-meter race... finished 25th overall in the 6,000-meter race with a mark of 18:56.81 at the Rice Invitational... crossed the end line in 34:09.15 in the 10,000-meter race at the NCAA Division I South Central Regional Cross Country Championships.
PSJA North High School
Hernandez was a two-time Most Valuable Player for the Raiders during his cross country prep career... selected as a team captain as a junior and senior... was a four-time Scholastic Award recipient... named Freshman of the Year in his first season with the team... qualified for the state championships in the 3,200 meters as a senior... finished as the regional runner-up in that event in his final season... was part of a cross country squad that captured the district and regional championships twice and finished second in the state in 2003... posted personal-bests of 4:20 in the 1,600 meters, 9:22 in the 3,200 meters and 15:49 in the 5,000 meters.
Off the Track
Hernandez is the son of Jose and Thelma Cantu... has two brothers and one sister... born on Aug. 22, 1987...brother, Luis, was a member of the Northwood University track and field and cross country teams...majoring in rehabilitative services.
