Summary

Biography

Aaron Lakey, after a strong junior season, has become the "go to" catcher for UTPA. The Broncs go to him for catching handling pitchers, hitting and power. Lakey returns from an outstanding Spring 1998 and fall 1998. He also played last summer in a strong collegiate league in New York that uses wooden bats, as the pros do. Lakey tied for second in home runs (8) on the 1998 Broncs while batting a steady .253 and ranking fourth in RBIs (31). He also collected 22 assists for putouts that cut down opposing runners.     As a junior in NCAA Division I, Lakey lived up to his promise. He earned All-Region JC honors at Bacone College under Coach Andy Summers in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He lettered four years for Coach Bill Fisher at Sperry High in Oklahoma. As a senior, Lakey hit .450 with five homers and 45 RBIs to earn All-State, Conference Player of the Year, Team MVP and All-Metro (four years).     Lakey is majoring in business.
