RIO GRANDE VALLEY – UTRGV baseball celebrates the program's past and present on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. by hosting its first alumni game at UTRGV Baseball Stadium as about 50 former student-athletes return to the diamond for a special alumni game and fundraiser ahead of the 2026 season.
 
The event brings together alumni from every era of the program dating back to the 1960s, highlighting the lasting impact of the program and its deep ties to the Rio Grande Valley baseball community.
 
"We're in this business for the kids," head coach Derek Matlock said. "You get to see guys that we haven't seen for eight years, get to hang out with them again and see how they're doing. The biggest part of it is we get a real game to put some people in the stands, so we'll see a little bit of a different look from our guys. I think you're going to see a lot of energy in the ballpark, get to see how physical we are and how much speed we have. It's going to be exciting for the fans to come out. They're going to have a blast."
 
The alumni game also serves as a fundraiser for UTRGV baseball, with tickets priced at $10 and all proceeds supporting the continued growth and development of the program. Tickets are available online at UTRGVTickets.com.
 
The alumni game gives fans an early look at the 2026 Vaqueros as they prepare for a challenging opening stretch to the season, starting Feb. 13-15 with a three-game home series against Kansas followed by a Feb. 17 home game against Texas Tech.
