CARROLLTON – Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro posted his third top-10 finish of the spring as he finished tied for eighth place to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team at the Maridoe Collegiate on Tuesday at Maridoe Country Club. 
 
Sampedro carded a final round even par 72 to finish with a three-round score of 220, which put him just five shots behind Oklahoma State's Ethan Fang and Preston Stout for the individual lead. Sampedro finished ahead of six golfer that are inside the top-100 of the Scoreboard rankings. 
 
As a team, the Vaqueros posted a final round 311 to finish in seventh place with a three-round score of 914, which is just seven shots behind Alabama who is ranked No. 16 in the country. UTRGV finished ahead of Louisiana, Mississippi State, Sam Houston, UNCG, Louisiana Tech, and Boston College. 
 
Junior Rodolphe Cicala finished tied for 36^th with a three-round score of 232 after posting a final round 79. Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada finished tied for 42^nd with a three-round score of 233 after a final round 83. 
 
Freshman Brock Porter finished tied for 54^th with a three-round score of 236 with a final round 78 and junior Esteban Gonzalez finished in 60^th with a three-round score of 238 after a final round 82. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action April 6-7 at the Tiger Intercollegiate, hosted by Missouri University, at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
