Biography

At 6-3 and 210, Rick Navarro fits the picture of a strong relief pitcher who can come in and throw smoke to put out a fire. He earned three saves in 1996, and pitched one of his three victories for UTPA'S 3-2 upset of Jacksonville at the Sun Belt Tournament.    Navarro led the 1996 Broncs in earned-run average, an excellent 2.27. His 18 appearances on the mound ranked second on the team. He limited opposing batters to a .200 average on the team, the team's best, a vital stat for a relief pitcher.     Navarro starred at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo HS for coach Gil Garza. The Bronc relief ace is majoring in Kinesiology minoring in Health, and plans to become a coach.
