Biography

Mike Tosch gives the 1997 Broncs what every team needs but not all have a "glue man." Co-captain along with T.D. Taylor, Tosch glues the infield together and keeps the Broncs sticking together for longer campaign.     Tosch does the little things, as well as the big things well. He led the team with his nine total sacrifices (six bunts, three sac flies) in 1996. He also tied Heath Autrey for the most game-winning hits, four. Tosch batted a solid .275. He kept the ball in play-striking out just 12 times, far fewer than any regular, in 178 times at bat. He also socked 10 doubles and five home runs. Two home runs came in one game to beat Arkansas State.     Those number tell a lot, but don't tell how Tosch, an excellent second baseman, repeatedly takes away  hits by going deep to his left and right, and turns the double play as well as any NCAA Division I second baseman. All those traits win games too.     At 5-10 and 175, Tosch proved himself a durable asset to the team. he majoring in Kinesiology, minoring in English. He plans to coach.
