During that season, Sharpe won the 1961 NAIA Singles National Championship and his third-consecutive NAIA Doubles National Championship with fellow hall of famer Don Russell.
The next season, Sharpe helped Pan American secure their second-consecutive team NAIA National Championship.
As a professional, Sharpe competed in all four grand slams and advanced to the Round of 16 at the 1961 U.S. National Championships.
