This victory marked the fourth consecutive national title for the team, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in the sport. The team's success was driven by exceptional players like hall of famer Gerry Wortelboer, John Hunter, George Kon, who played pivotal roles in securing the championship. Their dedication and skill not only brought glory to the institution but also set a high standard for future generations of Pan American tennis players.
The 1965 season was a testament to the team's unwavering commitment to excellence. The victories in both the national and conference championships were a reflection of their hard work and determination. "It's an honor and a pleasure to get this prize," Wortelboer said. "The years I spent at Pan American were marvelous and full of joy. All of the people in Edinburg were so kind and they made it feel like my home, despite being from Argentina. The four years I was here will remain in my heart until I die."
