Valuable utility infielder who can contribute both at the plate and in the field... Showed improved defensive skills during fall and will see action at second base... Was redshirted during 1993.

(1994 Freshman Season): Saw action in 16 games, collecting two hits and drawing five walks while also getting two sacrifices... Also was successful in only stolen base attempt... Did not commit an error in 33 chances in field and helped turn four doubles plays.

Kingwood High School: Earned second-team All-District 21-5A honors as both junior and senior, while compiling best fielding percentage on team in both seasons... Led team 21-9 record and spot in state playoffs as a junior while stealing 21 bases... Team was 20-14 during his senior season in which he again stole 21 bases... Two-year starter ad letterman for coach John Freitas... Earned first-team All-District honors as a senior running back on the football team which reached state semifinals the previous year.

Personal: Michael Frederick Schwager. Son of Eleanor Schwager of Kingwood, Texas. Born September 1, 1973 at Hartford, Connecticut. Father Tom Schwager played soccer at University of Connecticut in the late 1950s and brother Eric played baseball at St. John's University in New York. Majoring in kinesiology with plans to teach and coach after graduation.
