Biography

All-Sun Belt Conference candidate who will provide leadership and stability to the team... A solid all-around player who can hit, throw, catch and run... Has a good batting eye and a strong arm in the outfield... Has good speed... Has made dramatic improvement each season.

1994 (Junior Season): Enjoyed breakthrough season at the plate and in the field... Was mainstay on the team and one of the improved players in the Sun Belt Conference, playing in all 50 games and raising the average by more than 100 points... Finished second on the team in hitting with .327 average... Tied for team lead in home runs with four despite hitting in ninth spot in the batting order for much of the season... Also finished second on the team in hits (53) and slugging percentage (.432) and third in on-base percentage (.369)... Utilized a strong arm to record eight assists from the outfield. 

1994 (Sophomore Season):  Hit .219 in 47 games, seeing action primarily in the outfield.

1991-92 Navarro JC: Named Conference Most Valuable Player in outfield after leading the league with .385 average... Hit game-winning grand slam home run against rival McLennan JC (ranked second nationally)... Led team to final of the state tournament before finishing runner-up to Blinn JC... Redshirted in the spring of 1991 and played one full season. 

Mesquite High School: Earned District 12-5A  Most Valuable Player honors as a senior after stealing 45 bases and hitting close to .400 for coach Rick Geer... Was named to the All-Metro team as selected by Dallas Morning News as both junior and senior... Also earned All-District 12-5A honors in football as a cornerback and was recruited by Oklahoma State and Ouachita Baptist... Played at three different high schools (R.L. Turner, Carrollton Smith, and Mesquite HS).

Personal:  Brandon Benefield. Son of Chuck and Cynthia Benefield of Mesquite, Texas. Born on May 26, 1972, at Dallas, Texas. Brother Brian Benefield was a two-time All-State selection in baseball and currently playing Galveston CC and has committed to play at Texas A&M as a sophomore. Majoring in business with plans to pursue a career in sales following graduation,
