Biography

All-Sun Belt Conference candidate who all counted on to groom the team's young pitching staff while becoming even more of an offensive threat... Co-Captain... Will likely hit cleanup or near the middle of the lineup... Has the potential to be one of the team's top power hitters, but needs to cut down on strikeouts... Has improved defensively. 

1994 (Junior Season): Established himself as one of the team's top players and one of the better defensive catchers in the Sun Belt Conference... Came on strong at the plate in the second half of the season to hit .282 and tied for the team lead in home runs with four... Also drove in 23 runs and finished third on the team with a .405 slugging percentage... Hit two home runs in a season-ending three-game series with New Orleans... Had a home run and a pair of RBIs against Houston on April 17... Went 3/4 vs. Lamar on April 30... Threw out 13 potential base-stealers in 33 games as a catcher... Spent the summer playing for Witchita in the Jayhawk league, where he hit over .300 and helped the team advance top NBC World Series with a 38-12 record. 

1993 (Navarro Junior College): Named to all-conference team as a sophomore after hitting .290 with 5 HR and 37 RBIs... Named to Dean's List,

1992 (Galveston Community College):  Hit .320 with 5 home runs and 42 RBIs and led team to 33-20 record for Dick Smith... Started 46 games in the program's initial season... Was a Dean's List student with a 3.8 GPA... Coached 11 and 12-year-old football team and recreation youth baseball team... Youth baseball team advanced to state finals.

Sam Rayburn High School: Earned All-District 23-5A honors as junior and senior... Led team to 16-7 record and runnerup finish (to state champion Clear Creek) in district as a junior... Hit two home runs in key late-season win over rival Pasadena Dobie as a junior... Three-year starter and letterman for coach Billy Hurry... As a senior hit nine home runs to finish second to current Rice stater Jose Cruz Jr. among Greater Houston Area High School players... Lettered two years as a quarterback and one year as a linebacker.

Personal: Charles Edward Cox. Son of Eddie and Debbie  Cox of Pasadena, Texas. Born January 28, 1973 at Pasadena. Oldest of three brothers. Majoring in computer science with plans to pursue a career as a programmer after graduation.
